I was pretty happy with the Active Sky XP + FS Enhancer combination, but then discovered something in the a file (the one that actually is responsible for the clouds) was causing my cockpits to be very dark…almost like the HDR was too high. Well, not all day, I did a lot of work outside…but I’ll bet I spent at least two hours and relaunched X-Plane probably about 30 times. It does make for some really nice screens though. I’ll really have to take a look at it in VR. It looks really good in static images, but in motion, the clouds have a very rolling and translucent appearance that I don’t know I’m sold on. It is better “looking” than the stock or slightly improved ASXP (resolution) clouds in that things don’t look as grey and flat, and it seems to do a good job at drawing very complex, multi-layered cloud depictions. It does seem to work well with Active Sky XP in that it draws what ASXP is telling it to draw. It does this stuff via Plug-Ins, so keep that in mind in case it starts to conflict with something.

  • brand new lighting based on ReShade 3.1.0, with PirateKitty’s Pirate Shaders, and Crosire shaders, with realistic camera effects, such as highlights bloom, camera light adaption, advanced lens flare, and chromatic aberration for a realistic touch.
  • Overhauled sun rendition, with advanced glow and photorealistic sun textures featuring atmospheric scattering at dawn and dusk.
  • brand new cloud lightning, with realistic colours, and shadows.
  • Totally overhauled and reworked wave animations : water now has a much more realistic feeling.
  • photoreal sun textures with light scattering effects for dawn and dusk.
  • ultra-hd cloud textures based on real photographies taken from open-source databases, and of course with my reflex.
  • brand new photoreal sky textures, that now look much more realistic and vibrant.
  • FSEnhancer does the following (it is free…but donationware):

Caution - your mileage may vary and definitely, definitely back up your Resources folder (or whatever changes you might make). Thanks for your observations - it confirms that I’m not totally off base.įor the past hour I have been dorking around with FSEnhancer.

To original question, I know that the ActiveSkyXP people are rumoured to be working on their own version of the Weather Graphics plugin and are waiting for the update that brings X-Plane into the Vulcan era but I went with Ultimate Weather XP, which was nice graphical jump from the default weather that ActiveSkyXP used (X-Planes default weather).

Or it could just be me I may be misunderstanding the configuration or the anticipating results that the software can not deliver. Especially if you can not see that storm that you are heading into. I am ok with it going from clear to haze as I get close to an airport and the airports ‘local’ weather taking over from the interpolated weather outside that bubble but I am not ok going from clear, to a heavy turbulent thunderstorm back to clear and then haze within 15 minutes. It is an abrupt change between weather systems, sometimes occurring every 5-10 minutes. It does not seem to do the weather smoothing that I was hoping for.

Its like when it starts it is download half the weather or defaulting to something that it had already downloaded and then, later, it decided to really go get the weather. Then, when I get in game, about a half hour in it switched to something completely different. If I Zoomed out on the map, I saw some relatively heavy rain enroute, but if I zoom in a little, it all goes away and gets replaced by light cloud. IE: Spent an hour last night looking for that window of weather that would get me into Singapore. Sometimes what ActiveSkyXP shows me is actually what happens in game and sometimes it is wildly different. I usual y spend an hour investigating the historical weather for a period of time that I think that the small Baron can handle. The second is where what ActiveSkyXP says the weather is (on its map, which can change according to the scale on the map) and what it puts in game. This is probably a setup issue I have with ActiveSkyXP and XP and restarting both seems to clear the issue. Weather fighting (kinda like Z-Fighting for video cards) where two or three different weather systems attempt to fight for control of your sim. Basically I seem to be running into three issues: I will try to post some screen shots later today.
